Scott Beckett, BSc, MBA

Scott Beckett is an insurance marketing specialist with over 24 years of experience in many unique and varied aspects of the insurance industry. Scott holds an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Statistic and Actuarial Science from the University of Western Ontario.

Scott, who is a member of both Advocis, The Financial Advisors Association of Canada, and the Conference for Advanced Life Underwriting (CALU), is also a past member of the Advocis CLU Education Committee and the CALU Sub-Committee on Living Benefits. He has written on the topic of Executive Benefits and Executive Compensation and is a frequent guest speaker at industry schools, continuous education events and meetings.

Scott, who has held a variety of senior positions in insurance marketing and product development and sales, has been recognized for working with the crème de la crème of Canadian insurance professionals. He has provided independent advisors with specialized insurance solutions, and managed the delivery of tax and actuarial expertise, financial and advanced planning, professional development, training and value-added business services. His contributions have frequently resulted in high scores in the Investment Executive annual Insurance Advisors Report Card.

Scott is currently the president of Edgewater Financial Group Inc., a boutique insurance marketing firm in downtown Toronto specializing in employee and executive benefits and estate planning for wealthy Canadians.


Christine Van Cauwenberghe, B.Comm. (Hons), LL.B., CFP, TEP

Christine is Director, Tax and Estate Planning, in the Advanced Financial Planning department of Investors Group. Christine obtained both her Commerce and Law degree from the University of Manitoba prior to being called to the Bar in both Manitoba and Ontario.

Christine spent several years practicing tax law with a large law firm in Winnipeg before joining Investors Group in 2001.  Christine also has her Certified Financial Planner designation and is a member of both the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

Christine teaches part of the Corporate Tax Law course at the University of Manitoba Law School, has given lectures to numerous professional groups and is a regular media spokesperson for Investors Group. She is also the author of Wealth Planning Strategies for Canadians, which is published annually by Thomson Carswell and is currently in its fifth edition.

Christine lives in Winnipeg.


Kathryn Bennett, LL.B., TEP

Kathryn who prefers to be called Kit is a tax and estate planning lawyer. She works with advisors and clients to put in place sophisticated solutions in the areas of wealth protection, business continuation and succession, as well as advanced insurance planning for individuals, their families and their businesses. She has a particular interest in the use of insurance, segregated funds and annuities for charitable giving and cross-border planning.

Kit is particularly interested in the use of insurance, segregated funds and annuities for charitable giving and cross-border planning.

Kit is an accomplished author and frequent presenter on topics such as wealth accumulation and preservation using exempt life insurance policies, beneficiary designation planning, leveraged insurance strategies, the use of insurance and annuities in Wills and trusts, and retirement planning.

Kit’s professional memberships include the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Society of Trust and Estates Practitioners (STEP), the Ontario Bar Association (Professional Development and Continuing Education Liaison, Feminist Legal Analysis Executive; Past-Chair, Trusts & Estates Executive; Past-Chair, Main Continuing Legal Education Committee), the Conference for Advanced Life Underwriting (CALU), and the Estate Planning Council of Toronto.

Kit received her B.A. (magna cum laude) from the State University College of New York at Brockport, and her LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School, York University.


Kevin Wark, LL.B, CLU, TEP

Kevin Wark is CALU’s Chair of Tax Policy as well as a SVP with PPI Financial Group. Kevin is a well-known speaker and author in the insurance industry. He has written and spoken extensively in the areas of estate and tax planning.

Kevin is the author of Everything You Need to Know About Estate Planning, which was published by Key Porter Books. He is editor-in-chief of the Federated Press publication Insurance Planning, and a regular contributor to Advocis’ FORUM magazine.

Kevin is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, Canadian Bar Association, Conference for Advanced Life Underwriting and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, and Advocis, The Financial Advisors Association of Canada.

Terry G. Zive, CLU, CH.F.C, RHU, FLMI, TEP

Terry has over 30 years of experience in the life insurance industry and is a recognized expert in insurance advisory, business succession and estate planning for high net-worth clients and medium- to large-sized privately owned businesses.

For 20 years prior to founding Zive Financial, where Terry remains the President  & CEO, he led PPI Financial Group’s marketing efforts for Eastern Canada.

Terry has been a member of Advocis, The Financial Advisors Association of Canada, since 1983 and of the Conference for Advanced Life Underwriting (CALU) since 1992.

Terry is currently a member of the Munich Reinsurance Company of Canada National Advisory Board, is the Vice-Chair of the CALU / Advocis Joint Government Relations Committee and is the National Chair of the Advocis Regulatory Affairs Committee. Previously, Terry has served as Chair of CALU and as Vice-Chair of the Advocis Board.

Terry is regularly quoted in Advisor.ca, FORUM Magazine and Investment Executive, and has acted as an expert witness in structured insurance proceedings in Canada.
