Why Choose CLU®?
What it is
“Chartered Life Underwriter” (CLU®) is Canada’s premier wealth transfer and estate planning designation conferred exclusively in Canada by The Institute for Advanced Financial Education.
What it does
The CLU program develops the financial advisor’s knowledge and application skills in three key areas of wealth transfer and estate planning advice:
- to determine the effect of income tax regulations on the client’s financial needs and objectives in developing comprehensive financial and estate plans
- to recognize the impact of the laws of the various jurisdictions that affect the conduct of financial advisors and the rights and obligations of their clients in financial and estate planning;
- to identify problems, gather comprehensive data, and plan integrated solutions – essential tasks in client financial and estate planning.
How it helps you
The CLU® is recognized in the financial services industry and is respected by clients and their financial practitioners. It implies competence in the area of estate planning and provides the education needed to differentiate one's practice. CLU®-designated practitioners are in the unique position of helping their clients build and preserve wealth.
From a career perspective, research has shown that almost 80% of those who hold a CLU designation make more than $100,000 a year; and more than 4 out of 10 CLU designates make $200,000 or more a year.
