Dean Owen to head the Advocis Board of Directors in 2012
Toronto – This past November 21 at their annual general meeting, members of Advocis, The Financial Advisors Association of Canada, elected a new slate of directors for their 2012 board. Dean Owen CLU, CH.F.C., has been elected as chair of the board of directors.
“It is a tremendous honour for me to have the support and confidence of the Advocis membership,” said Mr. Owen. “I have been a member of this organization for almost my entire professional life, and I know the important role it plays in the lives of all financial advisors and planners in Canada. My board colleagues and I look forward to addressing the challenges that face our profession, to the many exciting opportunities, and to ensuring that Advocis remains a vibrant and effective voice for our members.”
Dean Owen has served as a director of Advocis at both the national and local levels for 20 years, including a term as president of the Saskatoon chapter in 1997. At the national level he has served both as treasurer and vice-chair, and has also sat as a trustee on the Institute Board of Trustees. He served on the Life Insurance Council of Saskatchewan from 2000 to 2008, including a term as chair.
Dean obtained his bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1990, his CLU designation in 1999, and his CH.F.C. designation in 2000. He joined Cherry Financial Services in 1998 and practices in the area of insurance, retirement, and estate planning. He is heavily involved in charity work, and is also the assistant coach of the University of Saskatchewan women's hockey team.
