Advanced Taxation Challenge Exam
When attempting to address client needs and objectives, financial advisors must be aware of the impact that income tax regulations have on financial and estate planning. The Advanced Taxation course provides important information on income tax rules and regulations that affect individuals, partners and company owners as well as financial advisors themselves.
As a CPA, CMA, CGA or CA designation holder, you are now entitled to challenge the Advanced Taxation exam without taking the course.

Learning Objectives
Taxation of personal and business income- To understand the general approach and methods in Canada for the taxation of individuals, partnerships and corporations;
- To examine a client's business structure in order to determine potential tax and estate planning benefits of tax incentives such as the Capital Dividend Account, small business deduction, and the dividend tax credit
- To understand how various types of income are taxed during life and at death
- To analyze the advantages and disadvantages of establishing an inter vivos trust to meet a client's financial planning requirements;
- To evaluate the benefits of buy-sell arrangements in succession planning for shareholders of a closely held private corporation;
- To describe the general approach in Canada to the tax treatment of charitable organizations, and the rules governing charitable gifting while alive and on death
- To evaluate the taxation of clients' retirement income portfolios as part of the financial planning review;
- To consider the applications for plans such as Tax-Free Savings Accounts, Registered Disability Savings plans and other CRA-regulated investment programs
- To examine clients' insurance portfolios in order to determine the effect of taxation on the value of these products
Self-Study
Students have access to the online challenge exam.
Students can attempt this exam once. If unsuccessful, he or she must enrol in the course.
