Member

Members are those members that are licensed, have a recognized designation, or are currently enrolled in an approved designation program and who are actively providing financial advice to consumers.

Within this category are the sub-categories of Manager Member, Newly Designated Member and Designation Candidate Member.

  • Manager Members are leaders in the financial services industry in Canada who are directly or indirectly responsible for recruiting/retaining, coaching, training, education, business development, or managing financial advisors and/or planners.
  • Newly Designated Members have earned an approved designation within two calendar years of applying for Advocis membership.
  • Designation Candidate Members are working towards an Advocis approved designation and must earn the designation within three years.

Requirements:
Must have at least one approved designation and maintain their designation with the conferring body OR

  • Be enrolled in an approved designation program (designation must be obtained in three years).
  • Adhere to Advocis Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Carry sufficient E&O coverage in accordance with the nature and extent of their practice.
  • Meet Advocis annual professional development requirement.
  • Manager members in this category have membership with GAMA International Canada and affiliate membership with GAMA International US.

Privileges:

  • Paying members in this category have voting privileges for various matters related to The Financial Advisors Association of Canada (TFAAC) at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
  • Full access to all membership benefits, value and all resources Advisor/Members in this category have the option to register their assistant(s) for a flat fee per person. Assistants would need to adhere to the Advocis Code of Professional Conduct and would have access to member resources and member pricing but do not have voting privileges.
Student Member

Student Members are those that are entering the financial services industry for the first time, have never offered financial advice and are not insurance, mutual funds or securities licensed. They are registered in a financial services licensing program or in a full time financial services program of study at a recognized educational institution.

Requirements:

  • Adhere to Advocis Code of Professional Conduct.

Privileges:

  • Student Members do not have voting privileges at The Financial Advisors Association of Canada (TFAAC) Annual General Meeting (AGM).
  • Limited access to all membership benefits, value and all resources.
Associate Member

Associate Members are leaders in the financial services industry in Canada who are directly or indirectly responsible for recruiting/retaining, coaching, training, education, business development, or managing financial advisors and/or planners.

Within this category are the sub-categories of Associate Manager Member and Member Assistant.

  • Associate Manager Members are not licensed, designated or client facing.
  • Member Assistants are not licensed, designated or client facing.

Requirements:

  • Adhere to Advocis Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Carry sufficient E&O coverage in accordance with the nature and extent of their practice.
  • Meet Advocis annual professional development requirement.
  • Do not provide financial advice or service clients.

Privileges:

  • Members in this category do not have voting privileges at The Financial Advisors Association of Canada (TFAAC) Annual General Meeting (AGM) Limited access to all membership benefits, value and all resources.
  • All managersí memberships will include membership with GAMA International Canada and affiliate membership with GAMA International US.
Retired Member

Retired Members are those who are either retired or working no more than 30 hours per month in the financial services industry in activities such as servicing clients, but are not actively pursuing new business. This category also includes those individuals who have been previously given "life" membership status.

Requirements:

  • Adhere to Advocis Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Carry sufficient E&O coverage in accordance with the nature and extent of their practice.

Privileges:

  • Paying members in this category have voting privileges for various matters related to The Financial Advisors Association of Canada (TFAAC) at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
  • Full access to all membership benefits, value and all resources.
