Promoting Professionalism Since 1906

Our History:

Advocis, The Financial Advisors Association of Canada, is the largest voluntary professional membership association of financial advisors in Canada, representing more than 7,500 members and 39 Chapters across the country.

On June 4, 1906, members of the Life Underwriters Associations of Montreal, Quebec City, Prince Edward Island and Toronto met and founded the Life Underwriters Association of Canada (LUAC) in the interest of life insurance agents and to represent their views to government and the public.

LUAC was later renamed Advocis, The Financial Advisors Association of Canada.

Advocis offers designation programs, continuing education opportunities, industry-leading publications and membership in a chapter network that includes mentorship, study groups, practice development, and more.

Advocis proudly continues more than a century of serving financial advisors and their clients.

To serve financial advisors in every phase of their career, Advocis features multiple membership categories. These include:

Members, who are licensed, have a recognized designation or are currently enrolled in an approved designation program, and are actively providing financial advice to consumers.

Associate Members, who are working within the financial services industry but who are not licensed or designated, and are not in roles where they are actively providing financial advice to consumers.

Student Members, who are entering the financial services industry for the first time, have never offered financial advice, and are not insurance, mutual funds, or securities licensed.

Retired Members, who are either retired or working less than thirty hours per month in the financial services industry in activities such as servicing clients, but who are not actively pursuing new business.

At each of these levels, members have access to a variety of corresponding benefits and resources.

First and foremost among the benefits of membership are educational offerings such as designation programs, certification programs and professional development benefits , which include joining our network of 40 local chapters, membership in GAMA Global Canada, access to our Coffee Talks webinars, marketing support, and continuing education opportunities through Advocis Schools and other virtual events. Members can also stay informed through their included subscription to FORUM Magazine and the eFORUM Newsletter. Finally, members can also save through a variety of perks, including savings on TD Insurance, E&O Insurance through Advocis Broker Services, and access discounts to over 3,000 stores, brands, restaurants and more through Venngo. All of this while also receiving additional, periodic discounts on products and services provided by Advocis through Corporate Sponsors and Partners!
