Glossary of Terms

Bankrupt:

Declared in law unable to pay outstanding debts.

 

Liable:

Responsible by law; legally answerable.

 

Misappropriation of funds:

The unauthorized, improper, or unlawful use of funds or other property for purposes other than that for which intended.

 

Fraud:

Wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.

 

Misrepresentation:

The action or offense of giving a false or misleading account of the nature of something.

 

Civil dispute:

A civil dispute is a lawsuit that usually deals with contracts and/or torts. Torts, generally speaking, are wrongful (negligent) acts that result in damage or injury.
