Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) FAQs

CFP is a designation governed and overseen by FP Canada™.

The requirements to earn the CFP designation are:

• Completion of FP Canada-approved program such as Advocis Core Curriculum Program for CFP Certification and Advocis Advanced Curriculum Program for CFP Certification.

• Satisfaction of CFP Certification requirements with FP Canada;

• Successful completion of CFP examination;

The Advocis program, which was developed in conjunction with leading educational training consultants, derives its material from the CFP syllabus as outlined by the FP Canada.

No, there are currently no pre-requisites. Anyone can enrol in the Advocis Core Curriculum Program.

You have four years to complete the Advocis Core Curriculum from the time you first register in the program.

In order to write the CFP exam, you must email your transcript for both the core curriculum and the advanced curriculum program to FP Canada.

The CFP Exam Review Tool is now available for candidates to access additional practice questions. This tool is designed to follow the content structure of the actual CFP examination with independent and case-set multiple-choice questions.
